American Basswood Tree
American Basswood trees are also known as linden or lime trees. This tree is easily identified by its 6-7 inch long heart shaped leaves and the yellow, strongly scented flowers found hanging from brackets under the developed leaves. The May through June nectar flow is strong enough that a light, sweet, monofloral honey may be obtained if the density of trees is high enough, up to 800 pounds per acre. Basswood honey is available sporadically as the heavy bloom only occurs every 5-8 years.
